Refugee support ministry

At St Nic’s we are passionate about helping refugees and asylum seekers settle into our city.

welcome boxes

We want to make sure no refugee arrives in Nottingham alone and empty handed. We run a Welcome Box project providing a box of essentials for refugees and asylum seekers as they arrive. Our volunteers deliver the boxes personally so they can befriend new arrivals.

ENGLISH @ ST NICS

We run free weekly English classes in our church building which are open to anyone. Learning English gives refugees and asylum seekers confidence in their new surroundings and this is another way for them to meet people and make friends.

If you are interested in coming to our classes call or text us on 07756 919361 or email Emily here.

CONVERSATION CLUB

Conversation Club is a chance for informal English conversation in small groups to practice speaking and gain confidence. We talk about lots of different topics and learners of every level are welcome. It is on every Tuesday at 10am.

To find out more email Emily here.

Volunteer

We always need volunteers for our refugee support projects!

Welcome Boxes requires an ad-hoc commitment to delivering boxes and being there to befriend any refugees and asylum seekers who would like a friend in the city.

Conversation Club requires a commitment of 2 hours a week. Volunteers sit on a table with English learners and facilitate conversation on a given topic. All you need to be able to do is speak English and want to welcome others!

English @ St Nic’s requires a commitment of 2-3 hours per week. You can volunteer as a helper, including helping with hospitality and lessons, or a teacher. To be a helper, no qualifications are necessary, ESOL qualification preferred to become a teacher but not essential and training can be given. Any volunteers do need to be regular members of St Nic's Church.
