“Alpha was the catalyst: it challenged me to question my views and beliefs in a way I’d never done before.”

St Nic’s Alpha guest

What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation.

At St Nic’s we run multiple Alpha series’ each year, and everyone is welcome. Our next series begins on 22nd Jan 2025.

How does Alpha work?

Alpha runs for weekly for 9 weeks from 7.15pm to 9:15pm. Each week includes a meal, a short video and a discussion where you can share your thoughts.

TALKS // The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Usually around thirty minutes long, they explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us?

DISCUSSION // Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say (seriously). It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

Who is Alpha for?

Everyone! Alpha is for anyone, of any age, who wants to explore the questions of life, faith and meaning. It’s open to the cynics, the sceptics and the open-minded.

Alpha is for you.

What if english is not my native language?

There will be a Spanish speaking table and an Easy English speaking table for those who don’t have English as their first language. We also hope to be able to offer the videos with subtitles in other languages.
