The Tree of Life Project - a new centre to serve and nourish the people of Nottingham
We believe that the Lord is inviting us to further His mission to the city by redeveloping our church centre.
why are we doing this?
We believe that God wants His goodness to spread in this city, that His nourishment and healing should be shared beyond the walls of our building, flowing through the heart of Nottingham.
St Nic’s stands beside a major thoroughfare, and we have amazing opportunities to serve people drawn to Nottingham from all over the world.
Our vision is that 79 Maid Marian Way will be like a tree of life in the city centre, providing nourishment and healing. It will be a place where relationships can be built, leading to community, and exploring faith. It will offer space for existing and new activities for:
· Children, young people and their families
· Refugees and asylum seekers
· British and international students
· Vulnerable people
· St Nic’s in the City activities and those of our partners
how will it help?
An accessible building means being able to welcome everyone.
More space means more groups can happen at the same time.
Different rooms means fit for purpose group spaces
A hospitality space for people to connect both before and after services and throughout the week.
A welcoming and modern space for children during the Sunday services.
A casual environment to meet with new people.
The new centre will provide:
· A modern entrance and level access from Maid Marian Way to a new, 2-storey building
· Lift and stairs to all floors in the new and existing building.
· Kitchen, cafe area, toilets, large room at street level, and other rooms on lower floor
· Refreshed facilities in existing building
finances
With thanks to St Nic’s congregation for giving generously, and an endowment we have received, we have already nearly two million pounds for this project. We thank the Lord for his generosity.
The total cost is £2.6m, and although we have a challenge ahead of us, our PCC has given approval to progress.
We have appointed a contractor to complete the project – Scope Construction Ltd – and on 17th December we held a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction.
The project will continue throughout 2026 and is due for completion in spring 2027.
