anti-racism
As a church in the centre of Nottingham, we recognise the huge blessing of racial diversity. We anticipate the vision of church in the book of Revelation, "a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb." (Rev.7.9) We also recognise that we do not yet fully represent this richness of racial diversity in our church, and we have had to ask searching questions of our own attitudes and behaviours that may account for this.
It is not enough to assert the biblical principles of human equality in the image of God, the justice and mutual honouring of the Kingdom of God, or the redemptive work of Christ for the whole of humanity. We want to live out these truths in how we live as a community, so that we can combat racial inequality in society with integrity.
The process that we have been through in the past 18 months, ably led by our WeR1 group, has not always been easy, but it has been rich and fruitful. This is just the start, and this policy, unanimously approved by the PCC, is designed to ensure that we continue on the journey. I wholeheartedly commend it to you.
