Be still for the Presence of the Lord

I woke up the other morning with the song ‘Be Still for the Presence of the Lord’ stuck in my head. It’s only a short song, but each verse is saturated with truth, beauty, and reminders of who God is and what He can do in our lives.

I don’t know about you, but as we approach Easter, I feel the need to slow down, to reflect on Jesus’ journey to the Cross, and soak in God’s Presence, but so often, life is just busy! Whether it’s the end of the school term, financial year or business quarter, people are tired, overloaded and weary of the day-to-day requirements of life.

So, for the reflection this week, let’s keep it simple. God calls us in Psalm 46 to “be still, and know that I am God”; as you read, play or listen to the words below, perhaps ask God to soften, still and stir your heart towards Him today. What is it that you need, or what characteristic of God do you need to know afresh today?

Be still, for the presence of the Lord,
The holy One, is here;
Come bow before him now
With reverence and fear
In him no sin is found
We stand on holy ground.
Be still, for the presence of the Lord,
The holy One, is here.

Be still, for the glory of the Lord
Is shining all around;
He burns with holy fire,
With splendour he is crowned:
How awesome is the sight
Our radiant king of light!
Be still, for the glory of the Lord
Is shining all around.

Be still, for the power of the Lord
Is moving in this place:
He comes to cleanse and heal,
To minister his grace -
No work too hard for him.
In faith receive from him.
Be still, for the power of the Lord
Is moving in this place.
