For and through Him

As many of you may know, each Wednesday morning, we have Prayer Breakfast, and this morning we were looking at Hebrews 2:5-18. About halfway through it says this:

“In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family

Hebrews 2:10-11a

Two things struck me about this:

  • Firstly, that everything we do completely revolves around God – it’s a circular economy. Through Him, all of our gifts have been created and allocated as He chooses, and He is worthy of us giving them right back to Him – all of our lives and our worship are for Him. This should inform and influence everything we do, especially the way we lead worship – it’s not for us or for our congregations, but entirely for Him and through Him!

  • Secondly, what a delight that God is pleased to include us in His family! He is the holiest of holies, and is the only one who can make us holy, but through Jesus’ suffering for us, we are included in His family; “Jesus is not ashamed to call them [us] brothers and sisters” (verse 11b) – what great news, that we are siblings and co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17)! This encourages us to live and lead worship out of our true identity in Him, and continually have a huge reason to praise!
