Who's who

Our Staff Team

St Nic’s is governed by the PCC who are the church’s trustees, and we also have a leadership team who work with the rector to set the vision and long-term strategy of the church.

Steve Silvester (rector)

Steve Silvester

Steve has been Rector since January 2008. Steve says, “I originally came to Nottingham when Jane and I married in 1985 – and we’ve been here ever since. I’m finally getting the idea that God has called us to this city!”

After training at St. John’s, Nottingham, Steve served an extended curacy in Mapperley where he planted ‘The Well’ and then led St Luke’s, Gamston, through an extended period of growth.

Steve and Jane have three adult daughters. Jane is a secondary school teacher, as was Steve before ordination. Their day off is Friday, which they normally spend walking, followed by a ballroom dancing lesson.

Steve’s wider leadership responsibilities include being Area Dean for Nottingham (South), serving on Bishop’s Council,  leading City Prayer and being an Honorary Canon of Southwell Minster.

In 2014, Steve went on a three-month sabbatical. You can read about his sabbatical on his blog.

Ian Paul

Ian Paul

Associate Minister

Ian worked in industry before training for ordination in Nottingham and doing a PhD in the interpretation of the Book of Revelation. He spent nearly ten years in parish ministry in Poole, Dorset, and another ten in theological education (training future ministers) back here in Nottingham. Since 2013, he has been speaking, teaching in a range of contexts, writing, and publishing what is probably the most widely-read blog in the Church of England at www.psephizo.com. His passion is to help the church to hear what the Spirit is saying through the Scriptures, so that we are all resourced for our walk of faithful discipleship.

Pete Rogers

Pete Rogers

Student & Young Adults’ Minister, responsible for Social Action

Pete moved to Nottingham from Luton in 2005 to study Theology and quickly fell in love with the city (and his now wife, Rowan!) and decided to stick around a bit longer. They live in Beeston, right next to the west entrance of the University campus and they love to open up their home to people. In his spare time he enjoys hanging out with friends, and of course there’s his beloved Liverpool FC! Pete is passionate about St Nic’s’ vision to grow disciples and to reach others in our city with Jesus’ love.

Phil Nichols

Phil Nicholls

Youth and Children’s Minister

Phil and his family moved to Nottingham in February, 2014 when Phil took on this role. He is married to Laura and they have three little girls – Eilidh, Aoife and Iona. In addition to a heart for cross-generational discipleship, he loves all things sport and adventure as well as cooking and watching films.

Alex loved it and has been working with young people in some capacity ever since. God has particularly placed on his heart Refugees and Asylum seekers in our city, as well as young people on the fringes of Society. He loves Cricket, Baseball, Football, Boxing and Badminton and has had a go at all of them with varying amounts of success!
