St Nic's: Living on the edge with Jesus

Children’s Work at St Nic’s

Ablaze is our Sunday morning children’s work where we come together to have fun learning about God. The children get dropped off at their groups before the service starts (from 10.15 am) and then we come back to join in the service at the end. The under 5s meet in the church centre: crèche is for the under 3s and Sparks for 3–5 year olds. The 6–11 years meet in rooms at The Congregational Federation Church on Castle Gate. They meet together for a time of songs and games before splitting down into smaller teaching groups: Ignite 6–8 years, Inferno 9–11 years.

Ablaze Praise happens once a month when all the children’s groups come together to meet during the service. We have games, talks, puppets, drama sketches and lots more to help us learn about God. We also spend time praising God through song, led by our own children’s band. The under 5s meet together for Praise Sunday in the lower lounge at the Church Centre.

Power Source is our group for 8–11 year olds. We meet every Thursday evening from 6.45–8.00 pm. The group meets alternately in a home in Wollaton and then at the Church Centre. We alternate weekly between social time social time one week and cell the next. In the cell sessions we use the “4 W”s (welcome, worship, word, and witness) to help us learn and spend time with God.

Sparklers is our group for parents with pre-school children. We meet together fortnightly on a Friday afternoon from 1.30–3.30 pm at St Mary’s church hall, Wollaton Park. The afternoon is a mixture of free play, crafts, songs and stories for the children with space for parents to socialise and support each other.

Once a year we also run a Holiday Club and a 8–11 years Weekend Away.
