Home Groups
Home groups meet throughout the city for regular prayer, Bible study and fun together. Sometimes all the groups will be using the same material, linking with the Sunday service themes while at other times groups choose their own topics. Groups often ‘adopt’ one of our missionaries and support them in prayer and practical ways.
We believe that home groups are a key aspect of our church’s life. It can be hard to get to know people and feel part of the fellowship in a large church so by joining a home group you will be able to get to know a smaller group of people and gradually find your own place within the church as a whole. Home groups are, in effect, like building blocks which together make up the larger church fellowship.
How do I join a Home Group?
John Irwin is responsible for helping people find the group that is right for them. You can contact him through the church office.
How are groups organised?
Groups are roughly based on geographical areas although some draw members from a wider area. We try to place people in a local group but the main thing is to be in one you feel at home in. Most meet on Tuesday evenings with one or two meeting on Wednesdays. Each group has leaders but leadership of meetings is usually shared. Regular meetings and training for leaders is arranged.
What kind of things do groups do?
This really depends on the group! Most sessions involve Bible study, discussion, prayer, sharing and coffee! Some groups are involved in their local community or in supporting one of our missionaries. Most groups have a lively social programme.
